At an open meeting of the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) in Washinton, DC, October 23, 2013, newly sworn-in BBG Governor Kenneth Weinstein spoke about the importance of U.S. international media outreach in the face of strategic threats to the United States and the importance of Internet freedom.
“We in the United States face an unprecedented strategic competition on many levels, whether it would be in the Arab world, in Central Asia, Africa, Asia, Latin America, Dr. Weinstein said.
Weinstein has been President and CEO of Hudson Institute since 2011.
“We in the United States face an unprecedented strategic competition on many levels, whether it would be in the Arab world, in Central Asia, Africa, Asia, Latin America.
It has gotten more complicated thanks to the international media landscape, where we see a significant number of broadcast outlets that claim to be impartial, and in some cases actually hire American journalists, but have a completely other agenda.
In addition, obviously the issue of Internet freedom is very critical.”
