BBG Watch Commentary
When U.S. taxpayer-funded ($224M FY2017) Voice of America (VOA) did LIVE coverage on Facebook in the past, it got somewhere between 4 and 30 LIVE views for its two recent VOA News English reports.
This evening, VOA News is not yet doing any LIVE coverage in English on Facebook, but BBC, Russia’s RT and many other news media outlets are LIVE on Facebook with thousands of views.
The Voice of America is overseen by the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), which then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described in 2013 as “practically defunct.” BBG’s annual budget, which includes VOA’s budget, is $777 million in FY 2017.
At about 7:30 PM ET, NBC News was showing 82,400 LIVE Facebook views, over 18,000 Comments and over 20,000 Shares.
The Washington Post was showing 2,400 LIVE Facebook views and 2,400 Comments.
Russia’s RT America was showing 1,300 LIVE Facebook views.
A VOA News U.S. vote Facebook post was showing 119 Likes, 2 Comments and 8 Shares after two hours online.
BBC News was showing 17,800 LIVE Facebook views and 1,300 Comments at 5:27 PM ET.
