USAGM Watch Commentary
In a commentary published in National Review, Michael McCaul (R-TX) – chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee – describes what he calls the “extraordinary crisis of leadership” at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and a “rot of dysfunction formed on a bed of group think, political bias, and self-dealing.” Many of the problems referred to by Chairman McCaul in his article occurred under the leadership of current USAGM CEO Amanda Bennett and her longtime aide Kelu Chao. Before being nominated by President Biden to be the head of USAGM, Bennett served as Voice of America (VOA) director from 2016 to 2020 as an Obama administration appointee.
