BBG Watch Commentary

The U.S. taxpayer-funded, U.S. government-run Voice of America (VOA), poorly-managed by holdover officials, was soundly beaten this morning by other international broadcasters — Russia’s RT, BBC, Germany’s Deutsche Welle (DW) and Radio France International (RFI) — and most other media which all promptly reported the breaking news on the announcement of the Trump-Kim Jong-un summit in Singapore on June 12, while the Voice of America still has nothing on the story as of 11 AM EDT.

At 11:02, a VOA report by Steve Herman, “Trump: North Korea Summit Will Be in Singapore on June 12,” finally appeared on the VOA English News homepage but it did not get a prominent “Breaking News” showing. It is possible that the report was ready earlier but poorly-managed VOA has been incapable of quickly posting major breaking news stories, often those with official U.S. government information and gets beaten on these stories by Russian media outlets, BBC and others.

DW had a breaking news story on its website at about 10:47 AM.

RFI had its breaking news story on the Trump-Kim Jong-un summit at about 10:54 AM.
