The importance of effective U.S. media outreach through the Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in helping foreign publics exposed to propaganda and disinformation stay informed was one of the topics of a Digital Journal op-ed comparing the 1984 murder of Polish Catholic priest Father Jerzy Popieluszko and the assassination last week in Moscow of Russian opposition leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov. The op-ed’s author, Ted Lipien, was in charge of the VOA Polish Service in the 1980s. He is a co-founder and supporter of BBG Watch.
