Being hours late behind BBC and other media in posting a report, using a UK-based news agency report, and not providing any original reporting on this American news story offers international audiences little reason to go to the Voice of America to learn about U.S. news and American culture. Dismal audience engagement through social media by VOA on this and many other news stories shows yet another news reporting failure on the Voice of America English website.

Reuters report, posted late by VOA on its English website, shows only 7 Facebook Likes and 6 Tweets after about three hours. (3:10AM ET Sat.) By then, BBC report has over 3,000 Facebook Likes.

VOA English website is not only slow in posting arts and entertainment news. This section has not been updated on the VOA English homepage for at least a day. VOA English website is also often hours behind other media in posting and updating political news. VOA sometimes fails to report on major news events, even U.S. domestic and U.S. foreign policy related news.

This is another recent example reported by BBG Watch: “New Year’s Message for Ukraine from Quincy Jones — New Year’s Demonstration in Turkey — But Nothing From Voice of America,” BBG Watch.

Where is VOA when it comes to U.S. political and cultural news?
