A Voice of America (VOA) reporter says:

“It is so quiet at times in the [Voice of America] newsroom you would think we were closed.”

“Stories are not updated for hours, and even then only cursorily.”

“Large numbers of [VOA] newscast shifts are being covered by contractors.”

“No one seems to be in charge.”

“It’s creepy.”

“I hate even being in this environment.”

The featured photo showing an empty anchor desk was actually used sometime ago in a Voice of America promo of the State of the Union VOA news coverage.

  1. To be fair, all newsrooms are more quiet now thanks to the internet. But the rest of the criticism is accurate.

What’s really creepy is the number of early and near miss deaths among VOA reporters.
