BBG Watch Commentary

The number of new bureaucratic positions  and contracts in support of the bureaucracy being posted under the new leadership of Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) CEO and Director John Lansing and new Voice of America Director Amanda Bennett is most revealing. They are following the familiar pattern of previous BBG officials and boards. Nothing has changed.

Here are some recent announcements:

Subject: New Staff – VOA Director’s Office

Friends,

As we continue the search for our next VOA Director of Public Relations…

In this case, we are talking about bringing back to the agency individuals who have retired. Not so much contractors per se, they are “rehired annuitants.”

On its face, does this suggest that there aren’t people in the agency who are equally or more capable to these duties than former employees? Perhaps no one inside the Cohen Building wants the scope of work these individuals are tasked with.

On the other hand, it’s another fast track morale buster: IF you are concerned about the morale of the workforce and providing opportunities to advance capable and qualified employees (which we believe senior agency officials have no interest in at all). More than likely, knowledgeable employees are a threat to the rampant incompetence and corruption among senior agency officials.

A comment: “Based on BBG’s past and current performance under a CEO with zero experience in managing a Federal agency, an inability to manage Operational Risk across the board, and recent posted USAJOBs for a GS-15 Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to work exclusively within VOA, there is really no questioning of VOA’s fate. BBG is far removed from the NCR community of federal agencies that monitor Russia’s activities and IT attack capabilities…this includes hacking systems, agency websites regardless of contract platforms, and IBB’s transmitting stations. BBG is wide open for a catastrophic hack…”
